It's no secret we love to be active in the Bay of Plenty's natural environments, and with daylight saving here, there's never been a better time to dust off the sneakers, hiking boots or even jandals, and shake off the winter blues.
Over the last few months, Sport Bay of Plenty's Play in the Bay team has chatted to a few providers around the region, and together we have created a two-month programme of fun, accessible and low-cost activities everyone can enjoy to get Outdoors & Active this spring.
Depending on where you live, you could have a go at beach tennis at Mount Maunganui Main Beach, throw Frisbees and arrows at targets and hoops in Paengaroa, try outdoor tai chi in Kawerau and Rotorua, or boxing and outdoor bootcamps in Koutu.
There's a great event to enter if you've been wondering how you could give back to Edgecumbe, with the Tough Bugga Challenge on November 19. An obstacle course with plenty of mud, you can choose your level of difficulty and work together in a team to get through the challenge. All proceeds from the event will go back to Edgecumbe community projects.
Outdoors & Active also caters for those of us that remember the ‘good old days' of outdoor play before the takeover of screens. With our Hey Let's Play activity, there is a list of backyard play ideas that you might like to complete with the children in your lives.
Can they build a hut? Can they draw and play hopscotch on the concrete? Can they stack rocks or paint an art piece using water and mud? We have listed 30 of our top ideas in our Outdoors & Active flyer and on the website [SUBS: http://sportbop.co.nz/outdoors-and-active/]. You could even choose to turn it into a 30-day play challenge and complete one a day!
We'd love to hear how you go and if you'd like to share your photos, please send them into us on firstname.lastname@example.org or post them on our Play in the Bay Facebook page.
Sport Bay of Plenty is also providing some adventurous family fun with the return of our popular goosechase challenge during the school holidays.
Goosechase is a free app that sets missions to complete in three locations around our region: Waihi Beach, Rotorua and Ohope. The goal is to explore, create, learn and discover the hidden treasures within our Virtually on Track Gem Sites – reserves, parks and forests that are perfect for outdoor recreation.

Activity doesn't seem like activity when you're laughing along the way, and that's why we've made Outdoors & Active fun, the right amount of challenging and above all else enjoyable, thanks to the local recreation providers we have connected with.
