Hongi Jamie and Mereheeni

If you want to learn the basics of te reo Māori (the Māori language) in a relaxed and friendly environment, Toi Ohomai Institute of Technology's weekly night class is the perfect place to start.

This free course is ideal for beginners who want to learn Māori face-to-face, at your own pace and in a small, supportive classroom environment.

The course will give you the confidence to speak te reo Māori at home, with friends or in your workplace.

You'll learn all the essentials such as how to correctly pronounce Māori words, how to introduce yourself in Māori and simple Māori greetings. Once you've mastered this we will extend your Māori vocabulary by teaching you simple sentence structures so you can start putting together phrases and sentences.

This course is suitable for anyone who has an interest in te reo Māori and is keen to begin their journey learning this beautiful language.

You will also gain an insight into Te Ao Māori (the Māori world) and better understand Māori people and society. This is particularly useful for professionals who deal with Māori clients and Māori corporations and entities.

The ‘Short Award in Te Reo Maori – Te Kakano' course begins on Thursday, 22 March so don't miss out! This free part-time course takes place weekly on Thursdays from 5.30pm-8.30pm at the Windermere campus, and runs from March until December 2018.
