Suit up, it's business time!

Getting in the spirit od the BIZ Games are Metro Marketing's managing director Michelle Whitmore and staff Nikita Cooper and Richard Allen.

Businesses from the Bay of Plenty and around New Zealand are being urged to round up their colleagues and get ready for Tauranga's inaugural BIZ Games.

The BIZ Games, scheduled for this October 7-9 at ASB Baypark, is a multi-sports tournament for work teams and will test the teamwork, skills and stamina of participants.

BIZ Games event manager Larissa Allen says while the games won't be held until early-October, now is a good time to get teams together to tackle one or more of the nine sports on offer, or to aim for the Champion of Champions' trophy.

Competitors can go head-to-head in a variety of sports including indoor netball, darts, indoor bowls, indoor soccer, running and cycling events, volleyball, basketball and touch rugby.

Larissa says the games also create opportunity for business organisations to develop a real team spirit when preparing and taking part – whether individuals are participants or sideline supporters.

'There is also no doubt that rubbing shoulders with other businesspeople in a competitive-but-fun environment has spin off effects for businesses, which is another good reason for entering.

'Entries are sought from businesses around the region and possibly from further afield, so firms could be going up against other firms within their industry.

'Be prepared for an ‘elbows under the hoop' weekend. Bragging rights are certainly on the line, and there will be prizes and trophies to take back to the office.

'This is an exciting new event for the Tauranga calendar.”

Teams will comprise a maximum of 10 people and businesses can enter multiple teams. Companies with offices beyond the BOP are welcome to invite them to see if they can beat the might of Tauranga teams, says Larissa.
