Fun for the two and four-legged

There's plenty of activities for your four-legged friends at Tauranga SPCA's 2016 Pet and Family Fun Day this Saturday.

From 10am-2pm at Historic Village, there'll be dog competitions for the greatest golden oldie, the uncanny owner resemblance, the ‘waggiest' tail, the SPCA's worst breed guess, best dressed pet, best doggy tricks, cutest child and pet – and much more. If your pooch isn't one for the limelight, let them cool off in the paddling pools.

Organisers haven't forgotten about the two-legged members of the family, with plenty of stalls selling dog accessories, and offering information about pet care.

Plus, the friendly SPCA team will be there to give you advice how to care for your pets. There'll even be some animals including puppies, kittens and rabbits up for adoption.

From cupcakes to candy floss, event-goers can treat themselves to something tasty from a selection of hot and cold food stands.

Children, or just the young at heart, can also enjoy bouncy castles, face painting, pony rides and a selection of carnival rides, and balloon demonstrations from Bdazzled Balloons – or relax at the SPCA Education Tent.

There'll be demonstrations from the Police dog handlers and Guus Knopers from NZ K9 Detection Services, who is an internationally renowned detector dog trainer.

All funds raised from the event helps Tauranga SPCA to care for the thousands of lost, abandoned and unwanted dogs and cats that arrive at the shelter every year.

All dogs must be well-behaved and on leads. Entry is by gold coin donation.
