Classical music lovers are in for a great treat when Bay of Plenty Symphonia performs its final concert of 2022 at Holy Trinity Church on November 20.

Alongside the ‘Drysdale' overture by New Zealand composer Douglas Lilburn and Schubert's magnificent ‘ninth Symphony (The Great)', the programme features a talented clarinet soloist, Stefenie Pickston.

She will perform Louis Spohr's second ‘clarinet concerto', a delightful 19th Century piece showcasing the instrument's versatility and virtuosity.

Stefenie gave her first solo performance at 12 in the Auckland Town Hall and later won an Orchestral Internship with Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra. She is now a final year Hillary Scholar at University of Waikato, where she has received an award for the top music student and won the Concerto Competition.

Stefenie is a passionate musician who enjoys playing in a variety of settings, including as a soloist and as an ensemble member.

'Our community orchestra loves playing with up-and-coming soloists and we're always amazed at the talent,” says Symphonia Committee member Maggie Gething.

'We're hope many young people will come along to the concert to see what can be achieved with practice and dedication!”

The concert marks 75 years since the orchestra's inaugural recital (as the Tauranga Orchestral Society); and the 10th anniversary of Justus Rozemond's appointment as music director.

Celebrating Greatness is on Sunday, November 20, from 4pm at Holy Trinity Church, Devonport Rd, Tauranga.

Tickets can be purchased at: www.eventfinda.co.nz at i-SITEs for $15 plus booking fee per adult, or at the door on the night for $20 per adult. Under 18s can attend for free.
