Learning from the past

A preoccupation with the future not only prevents us from seeing the present as it is, but often prompts us to rearrange the past. - Eric Hoffer

When we reflect back on the past and rearrange it to feel more comfortable, we may also be losing the learning we could have gained if we had been more honest with those uncomfortable situations that we had experienced. When we do this we also create certain ways we want to see our present and future, perhaps to our own detriment. For example, I remember a situation when I had a leadership role and there was someone who was always attempting to undermine it. I could see they had trouble with not being in control of everything and I had some struggles with them, and their attitude. However, when I have reflected back on it, I realise I may not have examined as clearly as I could have done what I may have contributed to the situation that made it more difficult.

Are there situations in your past where you haven't been completely honest with yourself, and what could you do to readdress them, and learn and grow more in yourself from them?
