Many have tried to suggest this year that they could help me out with my wine column by doing it themselves!
It has been a real privilege to meet with so many knowledgeable winemakers and of course I have really enjoyed sharing a glass of wine with them – so no, I won't be giving up my role anytime soon.

There are so many outstanding wines to choose from and it all does come down to your individual taste and preference.
The standouts for me this year in no particular order, would have to be:
Sauvignon Blanc: Summerhouse, Chardonnay: Te Mata Elston, Riesling: Aurum, Pinot Gris: Greystone, Rose: Clearview Estate Black Reef Blush, Pinot Noir: Lawson's Dry Hills, Shiraz: St Hallet Old Block. Other favourites include Mahi, Te Whare Ra, Kina Beach and Martinborough vineyards.
