When you are unsure of yourself you subconsciously take protective action to ensure that others don't discover this fact. Unfortunately, it doesn't usually work and you are more likely to expose your uncertainties. As you grow into and accept more of who you are and allow yourself to accept your frailties as well as your strengths you can also allow yourself a little self deprecating laughter at your expense – and everyone else is invited to know and love you more.
