Fond farewell on US dream

I mentioned a New Zealand made learning management system in my last post called Litmos.

www.litmos.com/ is a great system which was built for business use. The whole thing came about when Rich's dad asked him if he could build a rapid training system for him. There was a need as nothing in the market at the time suited. The guys had no idea what a LMS was at that time, which may have helped them build a great product as they had no pre-concieved ideas.

A short while ago, Litmos was sold to a US company called Callidus Software.

The sale means the Litmos team is moving to San Francisco to become part of Callidus and continue to develop Litmos.

Fantastic news for the team, but a shame for New Zealand – except the team has made it pretty clear that when they arrive in the US they intend to be ambassadors for NZ startups. They have just announced a $10,000 competition.

The winner gets flights for two and accommodation for 30 days so that they can make a great inroad into opening up in the US market.

Win this, get connected to NZTE and go for it. What a fantastic idea from these guys and what a generous way to say ‘ta-ta' for now to your country and you head off following your dream. One thing, this is not a software only competition, it's open to all startups.

It would be fantastic to hear that a Bay company entered and even more awesome to find we have a winner.

So please, please someone here in the Bay, go for it and keep us at SunLive informed how it goes.

Best of luck.
