Some of you may have been following my comments about Facebook and privacy (there was a seperate piece in the Weekend Sun as well). Last Wednesday Facebook changed the privacy settings again, in answer to the concerns. However, the new simple menu is not the default, so I suggest checking by using the tool I mentioned last post.
Facebook's move shows that they do respond to end users and understand how important the user base is. I doubt many people will really delete their account on leavefacebookday this 31st. But at least people will be a little more mindful of what they post on FB and elsewhere. Never a bad thing.
Staying on the topic of social networks and web based personal information.
If you are a fan or a user of Microsoft Outlook you should also try a plug in called Xobni.
This little gem provides, what is basically a search result about your contacts. Updating you to new blog posts and Twitter or Facebook activity. It is a great add on to your work flow and part of what is termed social crm.
If you are using the Reserve Group's crm, this will be a great addition.
I even set up Outlook just so I could have a look see and I was impressed. However, it was not enough to convince me to start using Outlook again.
You can get Xobni here:
http://www.xobni.com/
It comes in a free and premium edition. And also for Blackberry.
On June 1 I will be attending the Priority One Tech Expo at Baycourt and catching up with some of our local IT companies to do a few more posts concentrating on what is available here in the Bay. Oh and I will get my hands on the iPad. OOOOOOH.
