Indulge in a sweeter bread

Panettone – a delicious type of sweet bread originally from Milan – is a Christmas holiday favourite in Europe and I can see why.

I got to sample both the traditional flavour and the new chocolate chip flavour for children courtesy of Bel Mondo.

Bel Mondo owner Claudia Lues says the new version of Panettone appeals to children as it doesn't contain raisins (uvetta) or mixed peel (canditi).

'Perhaps the Christmas tradition of Panettone now has such a worldwide appeal that this modern version has been introduced to meet demand, but you still can't beat the exquisite taste and designs of Traditional Italian Panettone.”

I agree with Claudia and, like children, I think I prefer the sweeter products and the chocolate chip appealed to my chocolate-loving senses. With the same soft texture as the traditional bread, this flavour is best suited to those who may not like raisins or peel and have a craving for a sweet bread at Christmas.

The traditional flavour is also delicious with zesty peel, sweet raisins and a ‘currenty' taste, for those who lean towards the fruity side of sweet breads.

Both are beautifully packaged in Italian tins, so give one to a friend for Christmas.
