Sunshine and welcome rain

The weather has finally, if only for only a short time, turned in favour of the farmers in our region who have been without rain for months. Those who live in the city and suburbs have been loving the long fine spells and all the outdoor activities that sunshine makes possible.

Our kiwifruit growers likewise have benefited from the warm dry period leading into harvest. Others like their livestock farming neighbours needing good grass growth at this time of year have been struggling. It's a reminder of our broad based Bay of Plenty economy – farming, forestry, horticulture, education, transport, health, retail, tourism and manufacturing with Port of Tauranga as NZ's busiest gateway to and from international markets.

All this combined with a robust professional and trade related servicing sector puts the region in good shape to withstand the many ups and downs which the global and national economy have dished up over the last couple of years.

There are definite signs in the property market now of steadily increasing confidence and subsequent levels of activity, across residential, rural and commercial markets. Our Eves auction room has seen increased activity and results either ‘under the hammer' or very soon afterwards continuing to provide ‘sunshine' for both sellers and buyers.
