Distinctive spices in wine

Claire Rogers - All about wine
Every week I have the unenviable task of sampling a wine with a wine representative in order to bring you a cross section of wine to suit all prices and tastes in an easily digestible format (a tough assignment, I know).

Lawson's Dry Hills Gewurztraminer is a very special wine. At the risk of again saying it is one of my favourites, it truly is. Of course it does help that it is on the wine list at No.1 The Strand, so I do get to drink the odd glass quite frequently.

The palate is rich and fleshy with a concentrated distinctive spicy finish. Stone fruit and a gentle perfumed character dominate the palate. Cellaring will see this lovely Gewurztraminer develop further complexity, with musky notes appearing and the palate becoming richer and more rounded.
On Thursday, June 24, the Lawson's Dry Hills Gewurztraminer will be matched with the vegetarian curry puffs, served with a coriander and yoghurt dipping sauce. One of seven fine dishes designed by chef Darryl Switalla that will be matched with eight stunning wines from Lawson's Dry Hills. There are a few tickets left for what is sure to be an excellent informative evening. To book, phone No.1 The Strand on 07 928 3676. Enjoy!
The Weekend Sun has a bottle of Lawson's Dry Hills Gewurztraminer to give away to lucky readers who can tell us which characters dominate the palate.
