Dog and duck

Claire Rogers - All about wine
Every week I have the unenviable task of sampling a wine with a wine representative in order to bring you a cross section of wine to suit all prices and tastes in an easily digestible format (a tough assignment, I know).

There is nothing that beats a great pinot noir and the 2008 Dog Point is right up there on my list.

It went particularly well served with duck. If you are looking for ways to prepare game birds then don't miss the next demonstration day at Fantail Lodge Country Estate.
This fine pinot is a selected clonal mix from specific sites spread throughout the vineyard. It is traditionally vinified in open-topped tanks followed by 18 months maturation in barrels to allow a desirable evolution and natural clarification prior to bottling. The wine shows a wonderful mix of black and ripe red fruits, an opulent palate with integrated oak and a lingering soft finish.
Dog Point suggests matching this lovely wine with truffled venison and mushroom pie. Enjoy!
