Claire Rogers - All about wine
Every week I have the unenviable task of sampling a wine with a wine representative in order to bring you a cross section of wine to suit all prices and tastes in an easily digestible format (a tough assignment, I know).

Aurum Wines is a boutique family wine estate in Central Otago, the most southerly winegrowing region in the world.
All the grapes for this vineyard are grown sustainably and are hand harvested from Aurum's two vineyards. This is a stunning example of a good off dry style riesling, crafted by wine maker Lucie Lawrence.

The citrus and tropical fruit flavours make it perfect as an aperitif.
It also worked particularly well for me this week, served with smoked salmon and my lemon pickle. With lemons in abundance and a rainy weekend, it was the perfect time to make pickle. I also had an excess of tamarillos, which I poached in honey, brown sugar and cinnamon and served with a vanilla anglaise, accompanied by a glass of Aurum Riesling, very nice indeed. The tartness of the tamarillos matched particularly well with the off dry style of this wine.
