Well I have decided to do a different blog this week and instead of training tips I am sharing with you an exciting new area that LIFE Personal Fitness has ventured into – event management, by way of sponsoring and supporting our LIFE Personal Members into community based events in the Bay of Plenty and Waikato regions.
My delightful business partner Dawn and myself now have a huge tent sponsored by Rothburys financial services' Mike Williams, that we set up at sporting events as photos below show.
The event we have just been to was the Tuff Guy and Gal challenge in Rotorua on August 7 and what a day it turned out to be.
We set off with our group of athletes in a bus early Saturday morning. Weather was overcast and cold, and after a coffee break at Okeri Falls we entered the venue area. What a well organised event with marshals ready and willing to help. With the help of our athletes we set up our tent, tables and seating. LIFE Personal Fitness had 30 athletes competing so whilst they run we take care of bags and valuables stored in the tent. We also provide transport to and from the event, morning and afternoon tea and sushi and sandwiches for lunch.
Just after the tent was up and everyone was just settling in, the rain started which made for perfect conditions for the event and the competitors, not so great for the support crews and spectators though!
You could chose from a 6km or 12km race that lead you over farmlands, through swamps, under barbed wire and ropes up steep hills and slides down embankments. We tried to capture all athletes on film in some area and they all looked to be having a great time of it.
The sense of achievement at the finish line was apparent on the happy smiling faces of all athletes at the end; dirty, muddy, grubby and pleased to be finished. Then just when you think the worst was over you are then again sent outside and hosed off under a high pressure hose to then be led into changing sheds for a frozen cold shower!!!!
We stayed around for the prizegiving and was extremely proud that a LIFE Personal Fitness Athlete finished first and second with his brother. Great work Nick – all the hard work at Fitness Camp has payed off!
After this we all headed back to the tent and packed it up in the rain and headed for home. A big part of these events is also the bus ride home where we all get to sit, relax and chat about our eventful day and if we are lucky enough Dawn will have brought us her fantastic CD collection and will sing for us some of her favourite tunes including the ‘Gambler' and ‘Land down under'. It's moments like these that we just treasure!
We will keep you all posted on our next series of events!
