Claire Rogers - All about wine Every week I have the unenviable task of sampling a wine with a wine representative in order to bring you a cross section of wine to suit all prices and tastes in an easily digestible format (a tough assignment, I know). |
It was great to catch up with Ben Glover from Wither Hills Vineyard while he was in town and sample a few of their wines.
The 2010 Pinot Gris is a recent addition to the Wither Hills wine family – this year being their third vintage.
I particularly liked the dry style of this Pinot Gris; it has low acidity and a good weight – a lovely mouth feel with a nice soft finish.
Characteristics of ripe limes, quince, honeysuckle, pear and peach.
The palate weight and texture of this wine is enhanced by fermentation of a small parcel in ancient French oak barrels. The wine is carefully bottled, retaining and capturing the delicate aromatics, lush flavours and subtle palate weight, which is the hallmark of classic Marlborough Pinot Gris.
Great to just drink on its own and enjoy all the lovely flavours. Gambino's in Grey Street has a bottle at the ready for your enjoyment!
