A cool gift

Claire Rogers - All about wine
Every week I have the unenviable task of sampling a wine with a wine representative in order to bring you a cross section of wine to suit all prices and tastes in an easily digestible format (a tough assignment, I know).

Winemakers James Healy and Ivan Sutherland dropped by No. 1 The Strand recently, having driven up from the Marlborough region in their classic 1970 Holden Premier HG.
As well as driving a seriously cool car they also produce extremely cool wines. The 2008 Chardonnay is divine.

Remove the cork (yes a cork), and breathe in the lovely aromas of grapefruit and fresh lime. Characters of roasted hazelnuts and toasty yeast are evident, derived from 18 months evolution in French oak barrels.
Gentle hand picking and hand pressing have resulted in producing this finely structured wine with its fresh crisp palate. I know the dad in your life would probably just love to get his hands on the car, but I am sure he will be equally pleased if you present him with a bottle of Dog Point Chardonnay, perhaps you could ship him up a scallop and chicken pie to go with it. Drop by Gambino's on Grey Street where the wine is a bargain at $38. Enjoy!
The Weekend Sun has a bottle of 2008 Dog Point Chardonnay to give away to lucky readers who can tell us what the Dog Point winemakers are driving.
