Shiraz Viognier is a fantastic entry level wine from Yalumba in South Australia.
The oldest family-owned winery in Australia has produced a lovely and different Shiraz, bringing the variety's rich, soft texture together with the subtle sweet textures of Viognier.
The Viognier variety originated in France by chance when the grapes were found growing amongst Syrah grapes and has become highly popular in its own right.
Coloured deep red, it has sweet, fresh and fragrant aromatics of cherries, plums and bright redcurrant fruits. Subtle spices and clove notes are present, as are the floral hints typical of Viognier.
This is a medium to full bodied wine with red fruit flavours.
Grab a bottle of the 2008 to enjoy now, or it will also provide great rewards after five to seven years tucked away in your wine cellar. Try it with some friends over a steak and mushroom pie.
