The Te Mata Estate 2009 Chardonnay is definitely a standout. It illustrates the quality of the vintage.
Te Mata Estate was established in 1896 and remains a family owned vineyard, producing internationally recognised wines exclusively from its Hawke's Bay vineyards.
The Chardonnay combines so well the best of both traditional and modern winemaking. This lovely wine has a distinct golden tinge with fresh green lights. It has lots of fruit with a subtle complexity, showing nectarine, sweet ripe lemons and toasty oatmeal characters on a weighty, balanced palate of excellent length. It is wonderful now but will continue to develop gracefully in the bottle for a further 2-4 years from harvest.
It is delicious just on its own, however, it works really well when partnered with a seafood dish, try it with a seafood paella. Available from your favourite fine wine store and I know Karo has one ready for you at Gambino's on Grey Street. Enjoy! Visit the competitions page for your chance to win a bottle!
