Waking up for summer

Welcome to this edition of Fashion Focus for November 2010. Yes the warmer days are finally arriving and we are starting to feel the benefits of the sun. Our moods have lifted, our smiles have widened and generally we feel a lot better about most things.

Along with the warmer weather there is a need to start sorting out the wardrobe, washing the woollens and storing them away, but ensure you keep those garments that still fit and you enjoy wearing. Discard those you haven't worn for a couple of seasons, however, there are exceptions, such as items that could include quality jackets/blazers, black pants, wool coat, trench or stylish raincoat.

Having recently attended the movie Made in Dagenham, which was filmed during the 1960s, I was surprised at how many of the fashions worn then are now included in this season's ranges.

There is a vast coverage of current fashion trends in both magazines and local papers which give ideas on just what is available and cover from the high ‘cat walk' styles through to practical daywear. Advice and hints are offered, some I definitely endorse, do not wear something too young, too old or just not you. Very often a garment you have seen, maybe in a shop window or on someone else, can be completely disappointing once you have tried on.

This is where our experienced sales staff of Jan, Adele and I can guide you into a garment that highlights your best features, colours that compliment your skin tones and advise on garments suitable for any occasion. This makes a happy experience.

Life is too short to struggle through a fashion trend because it is meant to be ‘the thing'. There are plenty of flattering and comfortable alternatives.

Party time is just around the corner and we have a vast selection of dresses available of varying lengths, frilly patterns, plain, and colours, sophisticated, edgy and feminine so really you are spoilt for choice.

Finally I must congratulate Otumoetai College student Alysha Webster who won the senior technical award in the New Zealand Bernina young fashion awards. New Zealand designers are world class and it is an exciting and challenging industry to be entering.

Until next month look great and you will feel great.
