Fresh, vibrant tastes of summer

It was a pleasure to enjoy a glass of the 2010 Mills Reef Reserve Pinot Gris in the barrel room with Dan Shea from Mills Reef Winery. What a lovely, fresh and vibrant summer wine.

The grapes were sourced from a specially-selected vineyard in the Hawkes Bay district of Haumoana. This area enjoys a temperate climate, moderated in summer by cooling afternoon sea breezes.
I particularly like the off-dry style of this wine, which is full-bodied with a bright golden hue and has gorgeous aromas of lemon, pear and honeysuckle. The texture is deliciously smooth and complemented by vibrant acidity, as well as pear, melon and peach flavours. The finish is long and persistent, and it's the ideal accompaniment for fresh scallops.
