I have been spending most of the last few days enjoying the lazy hazy days of summer, reclined gracefully on the dog couch.
I've been wistfully dreaming of wonderful smells wafting from the barbecue and the Christmas ham in the oven, mixed with the occasional hint of possum.
Ah, the simple things in life.
We have tended to over-complicate our days, from first light till ‘lights out'.
You know things have got out of hand when the couch is covered in more remotes than the twoleggers have hands to operate them.
Simple is best
What I am trying to say is that the simple things are by far the best, as you do not have to over-tax the lump between your ears trying to figure out all the technological stuff.
One bowl of tucker and one bone at a time and I am happy.
You can have all the technology and possessions in the world, but there's nothing quite as satisfying as a pat and a chat between a loyal mutt and his humanfolk.
I don't want any complications in my life and the last thing I have to say on the matter is, the country has never been the same since they outlawed bull rush.
I guess we have to have choices, but it would be nice to not to have too many, and my mate Ross at Animal Antics on Hewletts Road has it just about right.
Stocking fillers
He has a couple of my cuzzies for sale. They are as dark as the night (a little like the underworld of the ABs front row) and are ready to go into your stockings for Christmas.
That's enough talk about getting into stockings. I cannot go there or the boss will have my guts for garters, so to speak.
If you do want a mobile garbage disposal unit, with an IQ that is off the charts, give Ross a call at Animal Antics. Avoid the cats, unless you are thinking of re-stringing your tennis racquet for summer.
I must be off now as I have made a conscious decision to go back to sleep.
Remember my good people, keep it simple.
Have some relaxing fun this summer, but be safe.
Zesty grilled salmon
Ingredients
4 salmon steaks
3 Tbsp melted butter
1 Tbsp fresh lemon juice
1 Tbsp white wine vinegar
¼ grated lemon zest
¼ tsp garlic salt
¼ tsp salt
1 tsp hot sauce
Method
Mix together all ingredients (except salmon). Generously brush both sides of the salmon steaks with the mixture.
Cover with a tent of foil or a barbecue cover and grill for eight minutes on each side (depending on thickness of steaks). Baste frequently with remaining sauce.
