The Tauranga Lawn and Tennis Club will be fresh as daisies going into the upcoming tennis season.

Last month the local club were awarded a grant from NZCT to help towards renovations for the club's changing rooms and foyer area. The club itself is more than 100 years old and the changing rooms are now 25 years old. Chairman of Midweek Ladies' Tennis, Jackie Kelly says the current refurbishments will modernise the changing rooms and foyer of the club, bringing them up to a standard expected in 2022.

'It's just like a house- you've got to keep on top of maintenance and this refurbishment will make the areas modern and current.”

With renovations kicking off two weeks ago, the club's members will be sweating it up for 'a month without showers” until the changing room's revamp is complete.

Jackie says tournaments start in October so the timing couldn't be better for players to smash fresh serves heading into the main season.

'We've got a great facility,” says Jackie. 'The club is great place to play tennis and socialise, and it's going to be even greater when this refurbishment is done.”

'We're just very grateful to NZCT for helping us to raise the funds required to refurbish and make our club more modern and more enjoyable for everybody to use,” says Jackie.

She is also looking forward to ‘Love Tennis' –New Zealand's Tennis Open day which is on Sunday, September 11 from 11am-4pm.

'It's an annual national event when all participating tennis clubs in New Zealand have an open door policy on that date and anybody of any age and ability can come and have a go at tennis, free of charge.

Jackie welcomes anybody and everybody to check out the tennis at the club as part of ‘Love Tennis' next month. 'The more the merrier…let's get people moving – tennis is such a great game.”
