Fists will be thrown in the ring this Saturday, December 10, for Bay Boxfit's Base Up Battle of the Trades IV Corporate Boxing show.

This will be the fourth time Bay Boxfit has hosted the event – inviting tradies to step into the ring while raising money for charity.

Bay Boxfit's will be donating to Gumboot Friday and I AM HOPE this year. 'We chose them just to get that mental health awareness out there…because it's huge here in New Zealand….[especially] the synergies between mental health issues and the construction sector and the fact that construction workers are at more than twice the risk of dying by suicide compared to the rest of the workforce. We just need to make sure everyone's more aware how bad it is here,” says Bay Boxfit director Gunnar Jackson.

'I've had a few fights myself and now that I've retired, I've just wanted to give back.”

The event will showcase tradies putting their best glove forward and taking on the challenge of three two-minute rounds boxing against each other. 'We pretty much try to get a whole lot of first-timers to give it a go, just to kick it off the bucket list.”

According to Gunnar, drain-layers and concrete-layers are ones to look out for. 'They're the ones that pretty much dominate the show.”

Bay Boxfit has raised $30,000 for charity from previous years' Battle of the Trades. The Battle of the Trades IV is at Trustpower Arena, Mount Maunganui this Saturday, December 10. The show starts 5pm and is a black-tie event. For remaining tickets, search ‘Battle of the Trades IV' at: https://www.ticketbooth.co.nz/
