Iconic pink walk returns to Tauranga

Thousands of people are expected to gather for the HOT Pink Walk on October 9.

Pink-cladded walkers are expected to descend on Tauranga next week.

The HOT Pink Walk has been an iconic annual community event in Tauranga for more than 20 years.

What started in October 2003 as a vibrant yet modest gathering of 80 participants at Memorial Park - originally named the “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun Run” - has evolved into a major celebration and fundraiser, now drawing more than 4000 attendees each year, said the Breast Cancer Support Service Tauranga Trust.

“Kicking off from the scenic waterfront, the 3km walk through the Tauranga City Centre is both fun and meaningful. Participants will enjoy entertainment “hotspots” along the way that add to the festive atmosphere. Dog lovers can also join the excitement with their furry friends in the HOT Pink Pooch parade.

Held in October during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the HOT Pink Walk is described as a joyful celebration of life that aims to bring the community together and raise awareness.

The Trust asks for a $10 donation/koha for entry per adult and a gold coin donation for children. All funds raised go to supporting local people facing breast cancer in the Western Bay of Plenty.
