In a celebration of musical artistry, Scholars Baroque Aotearoa will mesmerise Tauranga audiences this month with a concert of titles from classical titans.
The chamber choir’s May 17 concert will include a soul-stirring performance of Haydn’s first major choral masterpiece the sublime Stabat Mater.
“This masterpiece promises to envelop listeners in an ethereal soundscape of immense beauty and power,” said conductor Chalium Poppy.
Scholars Baroque – a choir celebrated for the depth of its expression and professional sound – will be joined May 17 by four national soloists – each offering extraordinary talent and emotive prowess.
“The choir will also showcase Esha Xu, aged 11, last year’s Rising Stars Concerto Competition winner.”
Xu will perform Mozart’s Piano Sonata in C, K. 330, a composition that marries youthful exuberance with classical finesse.
“Her talent at such a young age is nothing short of remarkable and her interpretation of Mozart’s work will undoubtedly leave listeners in awe,” Poppy said.
“Join us for an unforgettable afternoon where the beauty of choral harmony and virtuosic piano collide. Don’t miss out on this extraordinary event!”
Scholars Baroque Aotearoa and pianist Esha Xu perform Sunday, May 17 from 2.30pm at St. Peter’s Anglican Church, 15 Victoria Rd, Mount Maunganui.
