After an overwhelming response to last year’s anxiety events, three Tauranga practitioners are returning to host a talk on a topic that sits at the root of many common health concerns: the gut.

‘What the Gut’ is a community event on May 14 designed to help people better understand what’s really going on beneath symptoms like bloating, reflux, constipation, diarrhoea and food intolerances.

“While these issues are incredibly common, they are not normal – and they are often the body’s way of signalling that something deeper needs attention,” said Lisa Pomare, a registered naturopath, medical herbalist and nutritionist, who co-founded Bay Functional Health.

Pomare and Dunlop will host this month’s ticketed event alongside respected Tauranga GP Dr Trish Zingel.

Pomare said many people live day-to-day managing digestive discomfort, low energy, anxiety and nutrient deficiencies without realising how interconnected these symptoms can be.

“The gut plays a central role not only in digestion – but also in mood, immunity, hormone balance and overall vitality,” she said.

“When it’s not functioning well, the ripple effects can be felt throughout the entire body.”

‘What the Gut’ will offer a practical and empowering look at gut health from a natural and medical perspective, Pomare said.

“Dr Zingel will provide valuable insights into bowel health, including screening and early detection of serious conditions, while Paige and I will guide attendees through how the gut works and why supporting it properly can be life-changing.”

The talk will focus on understanding symptoms and simple strategies that can be implemented at home.

“Attendees will receive clear information and practical handouts to help them start improving their gut health immediately – whether that’s supporting digestion, reducing inflammation, or understanding how food and lifestyle choices impact symptoms,” Pomare said.

“If you’ve been experiencing ongoing digestive issues, struggling with energy, noticing increased anxiety, or simply feeling ‘off’ without clear answers, this event is designed for you!”

‘What the Gut’ is 6pm-7.30pm May 14 at Matua Bowls Club, with plenty of parking available. Tickets are available at: https://events.humanitix.com/what-the-gut-ty53p8bl
