Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tamawhariua is proud to bring back Whānau Hauora Day – a celebration of community wellbeing, connection and collective care – to Katikati for its second year.

The free event will take place at the Katikati Memorial Hall on Wednesday, July 8, from 10am-1pm, with the rūnanga inviting everyone in the community to come along and engage with local health and social support services.

This year’s event focuses on Whānau Hauora – family wellbeing, said Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tamawhariua operations manager Valarie Uilou.

More accessible

“It aims to make health and support more accessible by bridging gaps and connecting whānau directly with services that care.

“Attendees can chat with providers offering advice and resources on areas such as bowel screening, diabetes care, family-centred support services with Avenue Pacifica, and whānau support services including Te Manu Toroa, Well Child Tamariki Ora, and You OK Bro – a kaupapa encouraging mental health awareness and suicide prevention among tāne through korero, connection, and community aroha.”

Visitors will also have the opportunity to discover other whānau-centred programmes, including parenting support, hauora initiatives and pathways to holistic wellness led by passionate local providers who truly love what they do.

“Our community support services are incredible people,” Uilou said.

“They care deeply about our community and want to share their knowledge, their time and their aroha to help whānau thrive.”

Connection, knowledge

“Whānau Hauora Day is about connection, knowledge, and hauora for everyone,” Uilou said.

Alongside health and wellbeing activities, whānau (families) can enjoy a free sausage sizzle, giveaways, spot prizes and major prizes including a Super Rugby Chiefs merchandise pack, $300 worth of groceries, a Chromebook, and more.

For tamariki (children), there will be plenty of fun with a pukana competition and moko stencilling.

Uilou said Whānau Hauora Day is open to everyone – tamariki, rangatahi (youth), pakeke (adults), and kaumātua (elders).

Free for all!

“Whether you’re looking for information, support, or simply a great community day out, this is a chance to strengthen connection and celebrate the power of collective wellbeing. Stay tuned to Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tamawhariua’s social media pages for updates, schedules, and prize details.”

Whānau Hauora Day is at Katikati Memorial Hall, July 8, from 10am-1pm. All are welcome and entry is free.
