Coming across the finish line with a personal best is this year’s goal at the Mount Maunganui Runners & Walkers Half Marathon.
Going strong for 32 years, the event will once more see more than 1400 runners and walkers hitting the pavement and Mount base track this Queen’s Birthday weekend.
The event sees competitors either run or walk the 21.1 km, 10km and 5km distances around the Mount and back along Marine Parade. There is also an option for kids to participate with a Kids K Run or Walk.
Mount Maunganui Runners and Walkers Club president Victoria Wicks-Brown says this year they have added the Mt Runners PB Bell, which is a bell to be rung when an athlete has beaten their personal best.
“Come across the finish line with a personal best on Sunday, June 3 and proclaim your achievement to the world by ringing our gorgeous PB Bell proudly sponsored by The Athlete Factory,” says Victoria.
“This could include athletes running their first half marathon (or 10km or 5km), their fastest time across those distances, or even their best time since having a baby!
“There will also be a brand new beautiful medal for all finishers, our gorgeous course and scenery, exciting live local entertainment to keep you going, fabulous cheerleaders and a great race vibe for everyone from first timers to elites.”
Entry costs are $45 for the half marathon run/walk, $35 for the 10km run/walk, $20 for the 5km and a gold coin donation on the day for the Kids K Run/Walk.
