The winner of the 2019 Greerton Village Fayre Vintage, Retro and Steampunk Window Dressing competition is Zest Bakery, Café & Stonegrill. First prize is a $750 Sun Media marketing package.

Zest manager Kay Perry is delighted to win, after having entered Greerton window dressing competitions in previous years and coming runner up.

The competition is run in the week leading up to the Greerton Village's Vintage & Retro Fayre on Saturday March 16.

Retailers were invited to decorate their windows with ‘anything that fits the vintage, retro and/or steampunk theme as much or as little as you like.'

'It was exciting to judge,” says Sun Media's Rosalie Liddle Crawford, who has been judging the Greerton Village window dressing competitions for the last two years. 'Some windows were clearly themed retro, or vintage, with the additional steampunk theme giving opportunity for even more creativity.

'I judged the windows on five criteria – whether it met the theme, and had its own theme, the overall design and public appeal, attractiveness, quality and originality, and attention to detail.

'Some of the windows had definite traffic stopping qualities, some told a great story, and others drew you in with clearly a great deal of work going in to sourcing items for display.

'Marked out of a total of 100, there were only a couple of points between first and second places, and it came down to attention to detail.”

The shop windows will be on display during the weekend's event.

Greerton Mainstreet manager Sally Benning was very impressed with the high standard shown this year.

'The calibre was really high,” says Sally. 'And the shops had put a lot of effort into theming their windows.”

Other businesses that have decorated their windows are Robyn's Cottage, Blomquists Bakery, Waipuna Hospice Shop, Greerton Pharmacy, James Place Opportunity Shop, Lee's on Chadwick, SPCA Op Shop Tauranga, Chadwick Stationery Gifts & Lotto, Three Little Whimzee, St Vincent de Paul and MDS Leatherworks.

The Greerton Village Vintage, Retro & Steampunk Fayre runs from 10am – 2pm on Saturday march 16.
