One year on

Angie Warren-Clark
Labour MP

It's been a year since Jacinda Ardern's government came to office. How time flies! As MPs, we've all been busy this last year, getting on with the job of building a more modern and fairer New Zealand that we can all be proud of.

Right here in the Bay, I'm especially pleased that we have already boosted spending on road safety, particularly on State Highway 2, and I'm proud that we recognise the need to invest in infrastructure to match the needs of our growing population.

We are also seeing Kiwibuild homes come to town, along with the housing first scheme, which aims to end homelessness and not just manage it.

All across New Zealand we are delivering on our promises to improve housing, lift living standards, protect our environment and upgrade critical transport and other facilities.

We're rebuilding the hospitals, schools and public services that all New Zealanders rely on, and we're responsibly managing the government's books – running surpluses, paying off debt, and making the sound investments we need for the future.

We're also supporting safer communities by recruiting 1800 more police officers and investing in crime prevention. Every time we prevent a crime from being committed in the first place, we save another New Zealander from being a victim.

It's been a busy year, and we're just getting started. We're building a New Zealand we can all be even prouder of. We're striving towards a better New Zealand, for this generation and the next.

With your help, we're going to keep doing this.
