Tiaki.
It means to care for people and place.
As a destination management organisation, we like to think we do just that.
We care about the beautiful part of the world we live in because we want to keep it beautiful.
This is why we are strengthening our commitment by pledging our support for the Tiaki Promise – a guide for how to care for New Zealand.
The promise is a commitment to care for New Zealand, for now and for future generations.
Take the Bay of Plenty for example.
Everyone who lives and travels here has a responsibility to look after it. We have a collective duty to protect and enhance the environment and the community so we continue to love where we live, while enjoying the economic benefits that tourism brings.
Whether it is caring for land, sea and nature, respecting culture with an open heart and mind, or showing consideration for others – every bit counts.
This is especially important during our busy summer season with all the wonderful places, spaces and experiences of our wonderful region enjoyed by thousands of people.
It's also an ideal which aligns with our move to destination management – coordinating all the elements that make up the region, including attractions, amenities and access, while creating sustainable growth of the tourism sector for the benefit of the local community.
Destination management is key to controlling tourism's environmental impacts and preserving our region's unique identity and reputation overseas.
Caring for our place means we can sustainably welcome visitors to the Bay of Plenty and encourage them to get out and about, enjoying everything our region has to offer.
You can find more about the Tiaki Promise in our Visitor Guide or talk to the friendly staff at our i-SITEs. You can also read about the Tiaki Promise here.
Show that you care by helping us make the Bay of Plenty a cherished place for years to come.
