Making sure our young people have the essential tools required to make sensible life choices around money management, budgeting and goals is something many parents lack the resources to provide.
It is also apparent from the feedback we have received that existing college education curriculums do not provide enough emphasis on the ‘life skill' aspect of this important topic. This is not a criticism, merely an observation.
By ‘life skill' we mean real life money management – finance, credit cards and budgeting to name a few. Criteria and rates are changing weekly in this area, so it is no wonder that existing education resources lack the resources to stay up-to-date in this area.
The Planwise Youth Trust ‘Financial Literacy for Youth' workshop provides up-to-date tools and information in this area so that participants learn the following:
* How to make smart goals
* Understand the difference between purchasing with finance and cash
* Understand the concepts of setting a budget
* The power of saving versus spending
* Understand how a credit card works
* Understand student loans
The workshop is informative and presented in a style that young adults can understand. It is fun and interactive – our unique workshop incentive guarantees participants get involved and grasp the core values. Adults and caregivers are welcome to attend. Our next workshop is filling fast and is on July 24 at Tauranga Yacht Club. Cost is $5 per participant. Book your space now; email maxine@planwise.co.nz or phone Maxine, 07 547 4266.
