Sunny days are here again, and if you're feeling like a fresh challenge to get you outdoors this spring, the Green Prescription ‘Mount Challenge' may be just right for you.

Have you always wanted to reach the summit of Mauao but don't feel like you have the confidence or fitness to get there?

Climbing up the Mount is a great challenge and the Green Prescription team can give you support and encouragement along the way.

The Green Prescription programme is a free service aimed at providing support and motivation for individuals to become more physically active and improve their health in the process.

The ‘Mount Challenge' is an eight week training series with the goal of walking to the summit of Mauao.

The group is supported and motivated by trained advisors from Sport Bay of Plenty who run the Green Prescription programme.

The programme is designed to gradually build the group's fitness and confidence as they get higher and closer to their goal.

The group starts off walking around the base track and over the eight weeks gradually climbs towards the summit.

The group is designed for people with low fitness levels - if you can walk comfortably for about 40 minutes on the flat and you enjoy exercising in a social environment, this would suit you!

The ‘Mount Challenge' has been a very popular and successful walking group with previous groups continuing to walk once or twice a week after completing the challenge.

The new group will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays starting Tuesday, October 22.

An early evening option will be considered if there is enough interest.

Registrations are necessary to join the group as numbers are limited, and there is no joining fee.

If you would like to register or find out more information about the Mount Challenge and Green Prescription contact Larissa Simmen or Danelle Stevens at Sport Bay of Plenty on 07 578 0016 ext 816 or grxtauranga@sportbop.co.nz.
