Howdy Sunners, hope the festive break is treating you well and all your animals are being treated well too!

Remember if you're travelling to keep everyone cool, refreshed, watered and give them a regular leg stretch – whether that's four or two.
Please don't leave any of us in the car, not even for a ‘short' spell. It can get mighty hot in there, in quick smart time.

If you're heading out of town for the summer, check out the dos and don'ts for dogs on your arrival. There are specific rules for certain times of the year on some beaches and public places, so it's best to know the local regs before you get tapped on the shoulder, or receive a filthy look from a local!

Take a stash of plastic bags in the car, so you don't get caught out during pit stops. A big bottle of water and a dish is a good idea to keep your best friend well hydrated.
Finally, don't let the dog drive, even if he's the only sober one. Think ahead, stick with the plan and keep everyone safe and out of the pound this summer.

Thanks so everyone who contributed to this column throughout 2013 – I've loved sharing all of your cheeky pooch antics and fun times. Remember, when you're out and about take a photo and send it in to corrie@thesun.co.nz

Take care, and catch you all in the New Year.
