Cutting red tape

Catherine Stewart
Tauranga City Councillor

A Rules Reduction Taskforce has been set up by Central Government as a response to the Productivity Commission's findings on local government regulation.

The focus is on regulation and practices affecting ratepayers. The submission process is an opportunity for residents to give feedback on Council regulations that may be seen as unnecessary or need improving.

The categories cover building and property, planning and land subdivision, roading and footpaths, water, wastewater and stormwater, rubbish and recycling, environmental protection, business and commerce, public health, food and alcohol, and animal control.

Members of the Rules Reduction Taskforce will be in Tauranga on Tuesday, May 12. A community meeting will be held from 2.30-4.30pm at Village Hall, The Historic Village, 17th Ave, Tauranga South.

Up to date details about the meeting will be posted on the Rules Reduction Taskforce Facebook page: www.facebook.com/CutRedTapeNZ
