Community Connections update

Catherine Stewart
Tauranga City Councillor

The format of last week's Community Connections meeting, held at Papamoa Library and Community Centre, was informal with areas around the community centre allocated to Papamoa Progressive Association, Papamoa Police, Neighbourhood Support, Local Fire Service, NZTA, The Rock Community Garden, representative from Bay of Plenty MP Todd Muller's office and tsunami evacuation planning advisor.

Around 30 people attended the informal meeting. Feedback from people attending was positive.

A steering group of two elected members was set up to work with staff and others regarding the future of Council's building in Willow Street. I believe all elected members should be on this steering group and it was agreed that any member can attend the steering group meetings. I understand most are keen to attend.

Coming up is the opening of the Tauranga Eastern Arterial Link and Hairy Maclary statues on The Strand waterfront. Refer to Council web site for further information.
