The Gallagher Chiefs will make history by playing their first-ever Super Rugby Pacific game at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui on Anzac Day.
This marks the first time a Super Rugby Pacific fixture will be held at the venue, which has traditionally hosted cricket.
The Chiefs will face the Western Force on Friday, April 25, at 7.05pm in Round 11 of the DHL Super Rugby Pacific competition.
Tauranga Mayor Mahé Drysdale said: “I’m excited that our community will experience Super Rugby in Tauranga for the first time in over 10 years, inaugurally at the iconic Bay Oval”.
“We look forward to welcoming the Gallagher Chiefs and the Western Force to our city for what I’m sure will be a fantastic evening of rugby.”

The Chiefs Rugby Club has teamed up with the Bay Oval Trust, Tauranga City Council, and ticketing provider Flicket to bring this match to life. Bay Oval, known for its relaxed cricket atmosphere, will offer a unique beachside vibe for rugby fans.
“It’s great to bring Super Rugby back to my home region and know that our fans will appreciate the opportunity to see the team play in their backyard at this premiere sports ground,” Chiefs head coach Clayton McMillian said.
In addition to the match, the event coincides with Anzac Day, featuring an Anzac service supported by the RSA in Mount Maunganui and Tauranga. New Zealand artist Cassie Henderson will perform the national anthem and entertain fans at half-time.
