The heavy metal bar in New Zealand has been raised another notch with the performance of Devilskin.
The Hamilton-based four piece recently played ASB Baypark in what this reporter feels was a concert you just had to see in order to get the full experience.
For this metalhead it was hard to stay still, bung knee and all, when vocalist Jennie Skulander, drummer Nic Martin, guitarist Nail and bassist Paul Martin took to the stage in the Bay leg of their The Mountains and the Moon Tour.
The tour began in Hamilton on September 18 and ended at the Altitude & Gravity Bar in Hamilton on October 17.
Just about everyone I have spoken to were not disappointed with the show last Friday.
The passion and love for what they do could be felt with every strum of the guitar, beat of the drum and powerful vocal note.
Pairing their music with a great stage performance just added to fuel to the fire to make an epic night of metal.
From well-timed smoke, lighting and Jennie whipping out a chainsaw, it just left the crowd wanting more.
This was highlighted when Devilskin left the stage and the crowd started chanting, 'One more song, one more song”.
This led to Jennie, Nail and Paul coming back onstage to play an acoustic song 'Closer'.
The crowd was left in awe. Earlier in the night Nic delivered a drum solo which could have left the likes of Joey Jordison, formerly of Slipknot, star struck.
With the completion of their tour, Devilskin will now turn their attention to recording for a new album next year.
Paul says they have demoed 18 songs for the new album, with recording expected to start in the New Year, if not earlier.
'We want to get the new album out as soon as possible,” he says. 'We are really excited about the new material – it's a big step up for the band and I am really proud of my band mates and how everything is coming together.”
