American Roadtrip Tauranga residents Kay and Mike Travelling America on a Harley Davidson |
Those weeks roll around so quick.
From Yellowstone Park we rode to Cody Wyoming, a town founded in the 1800's by William Cody better, also known as Buffalo Bill of the Wild Wild West.

The town named a museum after him which we visited, it was so well done and huge, the gun collection alone was about 2500.
The next town was Buffalo, also full of history. The next four days was in Sturgis, South Dakota for the biggest annual bike rally in America.
Letting your hair down at Sturgis is only part of the rally, the other part is the amazing scenic attractions of the Black Hills.
Devils Mountain stands at 1267ft high.
"American legend is the rock sprang up in time to save two boys from a bear, the fluted nature of the rock formed from the bear pawing at the rock".
We went on to view Mount Rushmore National Memorial – featuring the faces of four American presidents: Washington, Jefferson, Roosevelt and Lincoln, carved from a granite mountainside taking 14 years and a million dollars.

Custer State Park and the very scenic Needles Highway, was a bikers dream with 10mph bends, rocky landscapes, pine trees and narrow tunnels, truly beautiful.
Next it was Badlands National Park - 224,000 acres of dramatic formations a lunar landscape of sedimentary rock with fossils of extinct creatures found from 30million years ago. The land was originally held by the Sioux Indian Nation.
We meet Pat Simmons from Doobie Brothers, his wife Cristine was signing the book she wrote about riding a pre-1930's motorbike in the Cannonball Endurance Run from Coast to Coast 2010.
They love NZ and Pat was so intent on showing us his photos of his Queenstown concert.
Every night we caught "da bus" into town from our cabin along with other happy campers from Germany and USA.
Hearing our accent they all want to know where we are from. The first night on the way home and after several rums Mike performed his version of the Haka, they all cheered and thought he was great.
Sturgis sure was an experience, I have never seen so many bikes in one place ever, sadly there were 9 fatalities during the week. With 4500 miles under our belt we press on to our next destination, until next week.
