How to get the best in business

You are no doubt familiar with the flight or fight response. In challenging times, it's easy to choose ‘flight': chasing minor opportunities, grasping at straws, running in multiple directions, trying to be all things to all people.

Often these panic-based responses are at the cost of what a business is set up to do best. Businesses trying to be all things to all people don't survive.
There is always going to be another business doing something better than you do. If you lose your focus, stretch resources and capabilities too thin, it is not possible to capture the attention of any particular market segment. The reason that your best target market segments cannot relate to you anymore. The trick is not to allow core competencies to become so diluted that you lose your unique competitive edge.
Evaluate what you do well. Look at ways to do it better. Then communicate to clients and customers that you are the best in your area of expertise.
