Mounts fantastic four

Professor Rajeev Kohli of the Columbia Business School has stated, 'Expatriates from the major cricket countries spend so much money on buying pay-per-view cricket matches, that the USA is the second-highest broadcast revenue earner in the world, next to India,” and, 'the BCCI actually earns more income from pay-per-view broadcast of games in the USA, than from broadcast in Australia and England combined.”

In the last Cricket World Cup the USA and Canada were second only to India by number of hits on the official cricket website. USA Cricket says it has 15 million known cricket fans, largely due to a huge foreign born population.
The USA Cricket Association has received unsolicited approaches from a number of organisations regarding the launching of a professional twenty20 cricket league in addition to other commercial proposals. They have invited proposals from qualified organisations and investors for the formation and promotion of a USA Twenty20 Premier League. This closed on Aug 7.
So in the near future we may see the formation of another huge cricket league like the IPL. To give you an idea of the size of the IPL, the English premier league (football) has television viewer ship of 160 million, whereas the IPL had 200 million viewers for the premier event in 2008.

To the local front: much talk has centred on the magnificent attack that Mount Maunganui Cricket Club will boast this season. They are the fantastic four; three quicks and a genuine swing bowler. For captain Dean Busch it has to be a dream come true.
Brian Jurisich is a quick, exuberant right arm out-swing bowler, who has just left Tauranga Boys' College. Tony Goodin was very close to the Western Warriors squad before returning to his beloved Mount. He bowls quick in-swing with bounce. Lance Cairns was very impressed at BOP training. Andrew Hoogenstraten has produced several dynamic spells for BOP and the Mount in recent seasons, destroying opposition top orders. The genuine swinger is Daniel Hill. He moves it late both ways and gets great bounce off a length.
Three headaches could occur for Dean Busch; which two does he open with? If there is a head wind, who will join Daniel Hill to bowl into it? If Graeme Aldridge manages a match for the Mount, who will miss the cut?
All in all they are not bad problems to have. Bharat Popli, the prolific Bay number three, has also joined the Mount so they will be some team this year.
Te Puke will benefit greatly this season with Brett Sorenson, Matt McCann from Taruanga Boys' and Carl Comody arriving from Poverty Bay.
One may ask, who in fact is the main city of Bay cricket, the Mount or Te Puke?
Finally, just to clear up a rumour that was circulating. Graeme Aldridge will be available for the Bay this season. He is captaining BOP in two early season matches at Te Puke against Howick and Cornwall of Auckland. This is great news for the guys in the squad as they will get to play alongside a local Bay legend.
