A surprisingly good Sauvignon Blanc

The Te Whare Ra 2011 Sauvignon Blanc is produced from grapes predominately from the Awatere Valley.

The grapes for this wine are all handpicked. Anna Flowerday says they make wines that they like to drink. I have to confess, even though I am not a huge fan of Sauvignon Blanc, I did really enjoy this wine.

The cooler and drier temperatures of the Awatere Valley result in a longer ripening season. The resulting wine has a different range of flavours to those produced from the Wairau Valley. Good citrus characteristics with white current and lemon grass coming through, with great texture, structure and minerality.

The Weekend Sun has a bottle of 2012 Te Whare Ra Sauvignon Blanc to give away to a lucky adult reader who can tell us where the grapes used to make the wine come from. Enter online under the competitions section.
