Holding on to the limelight

Some things make me sad, some things make me mad and some things make me glad.

Crikey, it sounds like the start to a Wiggles song, but this week I've endured all three.
The sad thing started when the bossman went to the movies. The daughter insisted he go to see Marley and Me. At first I thought it might be a documentary about the time, in hot pursuit of a possum, I knocked off the downpipe at the bach and caused the partial collapse of the boss's Marley spouting and water collection system.
However, it turns out to be a very funny but sad movie, from what I could tell, by the tears streaming down the face, sobbing into the blouse and mascara running.
The daughter was a bit worked up, too.
Yep, the boss took it hard. It seems the storyline was a bit close to home: 'Journalist who writes newspaper column has a very naughty dog and a lifetime of adventures then the dog is put down.” Well, they tell me it was my predecessor. Of course, I never do anything wrong!
Well we spent the rest of the night consoling him. Fortunately I was still here, large as life, to give him plenty of moral support and suggest some ways to take his mind off the grief. Let's start at the fridge!
That was the sad part of the week.
The mad part happened when I was invited to take a road trip with grandma in the motorcaravan. It took me a while to pluck up the courage to get back on board, and it took them a while to figure out why. You see, the last time I set foot in that mobile kitchen, the cutlery draw jumped out at me.
I've lived in fear ever since and wake up in cold sweats with the vision of being chased by giant spatulas and catapulting salad tongs.
And they wonder why I'm mad!
Anyway, I managed to ride with it for a few miles and eventually the paranoia passed and the twitching stopped. My ears returned forward to 'Alert and intelligent” position when I could see there was no longer a threat from any of the motorcaravan utensils. So I guess it's not a bad place, after all, this mobile kennel, complete with kitchen and room service. And man, do we get to see some interesting places!
The glad part came when Ady, my new little sister arrived. I was a bit concerned she may steal all the doggie limelight and me not be the centre of attention, but it's turned out all good. Besides, she came complete with large bowls and bags of puppy food. I'm sure we can come to an arrangement.
Keep watching this space for more on my new playmate. I'm sure there's plenty of great yarns to come.
And on that subject of yarns (not woolly ones, if you are thinking of knitting me a Winter sweater) but the ones that emanate from my favourite butcher man, in Gate Pa, The Aussie Butcher, of course, now I know, Australians are full of yarns, 98%, of them untrue, but Johnny boy me thinks escaped early and became a truth-telling Kiwi, so when he tells you he has meaty treats, you know it is 'Special.” This week the 'old fella” has bacon to die for, so get in and see him smartly, before it all heads out his door.
