One of the Bay of Plenty’s favourite summer events, the Katikati Avocado Food & Wine Festival, returns on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at the Uretara Domain.

From noon to 6pm, festivalgoers can expect a day filled with live music, delicious food, family-friendly activities, and of course, an abundance of avocados.

Celebrating the best of the region’s food, music, and local culture, the festival has become a must-visit event since its launch in 2004, attracting big crowds.

This year’s festival will feature a stellar line-up of live music performances, including Katchafire, Tiki Taane, White Chapel Jak, and Kokomo.

Event manager Kylie Watkins said the bands are legendary for their live shows “and the avo fest is a unique opportunity to see them in the beautiful setting of Katikati”.

“It’s the ultimate summer experience – whether you want to relax and enjoy the music or get up and dance!”

Live music

The festival kicks off with Kokomo, one of New Zealand’s most respected blues and roots bands. Known for their dynamic live performances and clever songwriting, Kokomo has been a staple on the festival scene for years.

“We’re thrilled to be back for 2025 and can’t wait to perform again,” said lead singer Derek Jacombs.

Next up is Tiki Taane, a true icon in the Kiwi music scene, who will perform tracks from his double-platinum album ‘Past Present Future’, including the fan-favourite ‘Always On My Mind’.

“I’ve heard amazing things about this festival, and I’m pumped to bring my One-Man Band show to Katikati,” said Tiki.

White Chapel Jak, a high-energy grassroots band, will bring their groovy mix of funk, pop, and roots music and get festival-goers dancing. “We can’t wait to get the crowd grooving with our unique Kiwi summer sound!” said lead singer Bonnie Hurunui.

The festival’s main act is global reggae sensation Katchafire. The all-Māori band will deliver an unforgettable reggae show, blending roots reggae, R&B, funk, and pop grooves. “Summer vibes + live music + kai, lock it in on your calendar and bring the whole family!” said the band.

Activities galore

In addition, festivalgoers can enjoy a variety of activities. Chef Brad King returns to the festival to host avocado-themed cooking demonstrations in the Seeka Kitchen Tent.

For the youngsters the Kid’s Zone will offer fun activities including face painting, giant games and circus workshops.

And with more than 40 food and beverage vendors, the festival will serve up an impressive array of tasty treats, from avocado-inspired dishes to refreshing drinks.
