Katikati Primary School has a roll of more than 520 – which includes children from more than 17 countries. On the morning of June 12, a visit to the school courtyard resembled a high-flying trip around the world!
Children aged 5-11 dressed in costumes to showcase their cultures, the countries they and families come from, or nations and ethnicities they appreciate, in the school’s Cultural Parade.

Korowai were draped over shoulders, tupenu and kilts wrapped around waists, bindi or maang tikka graced faces, and flags were in hands as the whole school paraded around the edge of the courtyard in different attires. There were even a pair or two of gumboots on feet! Katikati News’ Merle Cave snapped some of the colour-filled action.
