Footwear, fishing and fine dining – these are a few of Sally Benning's favourite things.
Soon to be added to that list is Greerton. Since Monday, Sally's name has been behind the Greerton Village Mainstreet manager title.
It's been a busy first week, a manic first week. There's a lot of paperwork to get through and her emails are down. 'We've got three computers here and none of them are working at the moment,” she giggles.
On the flipside, she's had time to wander Greerton. She's still learning the ins and outs of the suburb. From Te Puke, Sally hasn't yet had the chance to really get to know the village she's now fronting.
'I'm a bit of a shoe person, so a lovely shoe shop and a leather shop are what took my eye, I have to say.”
Yes, this female is a fan of footwear. She collects shoes. 'A big variety, all sorts of shoes and boots, and sandals.”
It's day two on the job and Sally's wearing a pair of casual heels. 'They're a bit boring today,” admits Sally. 'They're not overly colourful today. Summer is the time when I have lots of colourful shoes.”
We wonder what type of shoes she wears to her next favourite hobby, fishing. Sally and husband David fish off their 18-foot 'run-about” boat whenever the weather's fine and time allows.
'We go away for a week's fishing every year,” says Sally. 'March next year we're going up north game fishing.”
For Sally's next personal interest, we're guessing she slips on a pair of her best heels.
'Restaurant eating is one of our hobbies, so we're into fine dining. We travel around the country finding the good restaurants to eat out in.
'We're quite into degustation menus. We have no real favourite, just a wide variety of all sorts of food.”
We wonder what Greerton restaurant will be her favourite. While she studies the menus of the suburb's finest eateries, Sally will also be swotting up her new role as Greerton Village Mainstreet Manager.
'I'm just trying to settle in. My brief will be to increase the awareness of Greerton and to promote Greerton Village.
'My first project, once I've got sorted out in here, is to work on the Christmas event on December 11.”
As a former Te Puke Mainstreet manager, newspaper sales consultant and shopping centre manager, Sally has no shortage of leadership qualities. It's organising projects that Sally's good at.
'I'm looking forward to getting back involved in organising events because that's something I've probably missed.”
