Gearing up for the school year

Another school year has begun and the emails have started again.

It is an extremely busy time for schools, and those staff and volunteers that work in the school sport space. The students are now starting at a new school year level and will now be at a stage where new or different sporting opportunities are available to them.

The sport coordinators and teachers in charge of sport are tasked with organising these opportunities. Some of these tasks include registrations of students for sport modules and inter-school events, organising coaches and support staff for school teams, sorting and issuing of school team wear, liaising with all participants and coaches in regards to sports draws and relevant information, updating school newsletters with sport information and all ongoing school sport issues.

On top of that – they still have to co-ordinate and run sport and activity opportunities within the school! To use a bit of Aussie slang, ‘”She's a big job mate!”

We have some great inter-school events to look forward to in term one:

BOP Primary and Intermediate Golf Championship

This event is shared around the region and this year will be played at Omanu Golf Course, Mount Maunganui. This is a great event for those budding golfers and is always keenly contested.

BOP Girls Cricket Rainbow Cup

What a fantastic day of cricket this is, and just for the girls! This is a Year 4, 5 and 6 event. The girls get dressed up in the colours of the rainbow for the day and enjoy a great festive atmosphere at this tournament.

WBOP Surfing Competition

This event showcases some of the up and coming surfing talent coming through the schools in the region. It is also a great event for those students just getting into the sport.

Future Champions 2018

This is a three-day coaching event for Year 5 -8 Students that show talent in their chosen sport and display the qualities that are part of developing into a top sportsperson. Students have to apply to take part.

WBOP Inter-School Swimming Championships.

We have two separate competitions over two days for Year 5-6 and Year 7-8. All the students taking part have qualified through their school, then their cluster events. Both school swim meets are a very exciting way to finish off the term.

This highlights some of the events in the School Sport Calendars for term one. Detailed information, such as dates and venues, is available on the Sport BOP What's On calendar on our website, directly from your school sport coordinator or person in charge of sport.
