Celebrating around the TV

Watching the Commonwealth Games is something our family always looks forward to. I have great memories, as a youngster, of the Bridges clan crowding around the TV, cheering on our heroes.

It's a fantastic way to unite the family and the country, and celebrate Kiwi success. I am in awe of the physical training and dedication that goes in to preparing body and mind for competing at such a high level.

As much as we encourage participation, no one can deny the joy we all experience when one of our athletes wins a medal. I wish all of our sports people who are taking part in this year's Commonwealth Games the best of luck - we will be watching and cheering you on.

Easter is another celebration we look forward to in our family. It's one of the big events of the year when you grow up as a pastor's son. It's a tradition we pass forward to our children, by explaining the religious meaning behind Good Friday and Easter Sunday.

I can't wait to spend time with my family. The last few weeks have been busy as we have been making changes, and evolving the National Party. Spending time around the table, on Easter Sunday, is a welcome tradition.

The boys will also be excited about chocolate eggs and the Easter Bunny and we all love the smell of hot cross buns being warmed.

No matter what you have planned, I hope you enjoy the Easter public holidays and the opportunity to spend time with friends and family.

Hopefully the weather remains settled, and we can enjoy some outdoor activities like the National Jazz Festival, proudly being held in Tauranga. Enjoy.
